TOPIC: Intelligent Due Diligence: Utilising Human Sources to Answer Critical Questions
Michael Harrington, a director at the Mintz Group, a global investigations firm, draws on his decade of experience conducting reputational due diligence investigations all over the world to help in-house counsel understand risks and make decisions before engaging agents, joining joint venture partners or making investments. Michael demystifies the process corporate investigators undertake to gather intelligence from human sources all over Asia.
SPEAKER: Michael Harrington, the Mintz Group, Director
Michael Harrington is a Director in the Mintz Group’s Hong Kong office. Prior to joining the firm’s team in Asia, Michael worked for several years in the Mintz Group’s international due diligence and investigations group in the Washington and New York offices. Michael has managed hundreds of cases ranging from FCPA/anti-corruption due diligence to cross-border investigations throughout Asia and worldwide.
Michael’s regional focus is in South and Southeast Asia, and he specialises in intelligence and fact-gathering for sensitive investigations. He regularly manages casework in India and has visited the country several times. Michael has also conducted fieldwork in the Maldives, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore and the Philippines. He investigated allegations of fraud at a multinational’s operations in Malaysia, Brunei and India, conducted cross-border arbitration support covering jurisdictions such as Hong Kong, Singapore and Indonesia, and oversaw scores of due-diligence matters in countries throughout the region.
In addition to working in Asia, Michael has conducted due diligence of third-party agents across several sectors throughout Turkey, the Middle East and Africa, and researched the backgrounds and relationships of international aid recipients.
Prior to joining the Mintz Group, Michael worked for multiple non-governmental organisations and educational institutions in Turkey, Argentina and Washington, D.C. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from The George Washington University.
