What is ACC Hong Kong?

The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Hong Kong serves the professional needs of the corporate counsel community in Hong Kong and is the premier source for information, networking opportunities and education.

ACC Hong Kong is a chapter of the global ACC bar association with more than 42,000 members employed by over 10,000 organizations in 85 countries. Further information about ACC can be found on the ACC website.

 

Who belongs to ACC Hong Kong?

The membership includes a diverse mix of over 800 professionals.

Who is eligible to become a member of ACC Hong Kong?

ACC Hong Kong Full Membership

ACC Hong Kong individual membership is available exclusively to individuals, working as a corporate in-house counsel for a private enterprise, or working as in-house counsel for a government department or agency, quasi-government or administrative body who does not have regulatory, enforcement and policy functions.

ACC Hong Kong Standard Membership

To be eligible for a Standard ACC membership you must have held individual HKCCA membership prior to 1st September 2017. Individuals joining after 1st September 2017 are not eligible for Standard ACC Membership, except if you fall within one of the following categories:

  • Working for a government department or agency, quasi-government, or administrative body who has regulatory, enforcement, and policy functions.
  • An existing HKCCA member on or prior 1st September who is not in-house counsel (e.g. professors, students, academics, and paralegals). In such circumstance, you will be grandfathered and known as associate members and will be eligible for standard

What about corporate membership?

ACC Hong Kong Full Corporate Membership

ACC Hong Kong Full Corporate Membership is only available to legal departments, consisting of a minimum of nine in-house lawyers working in a private enterprise or government department or agency, quasi-government or administrative body without a regulatory, enforcement or policy function.

ACC Hong Kong Standard Corporate Membership

To be eligible for ACC Hong Kong Standard Corporate Membership, your legal department must be a corporate member who joined HKCCA on or prior to 1st September 2017, consisting of at least six in-house lawyers.

Legal departments who wish to join as a corporate member after 1st September 2017 must join as ACC Hong Kong Full Corporate Members, except if your legal department works for a government department or agency, quasi-government, or administrative body who has regulatory, enforcement, and policy functions.

Importantly, you must nominate a “Membership Coordinator” who will be our contact point to deal with any issues with your corporate membership.

If new people join your organisation, you can add them to your corporate membership at any time during the membership year please note additional fees may apply. Please refer to the Membership Type for further information.

Your Membership Coordinator should also keep us up to date with any people who leave your organisation so we can make sure our membership directory remains accurate.

 

Do I have to have a sponsor to join?

No. ACC Hong Kong welcomes all new members without a sponsor.

 

Is there a joining fee?

No, there is not. The only membership related fee is the relevant annual fee.

 

What are the annual fees?

ACC Hong Kong Standard Corporate Membership:

A 12-month Standard ACC Corporate membership rate is HKD500 per person

 

How can I pay the membership fee?

We offer three ways of paying: credit card via PayPal, internet transfer to our bank account, or by cheque.

You can find the details for each method on "Membership – fees and payment" section of our website.

 

Do you issue invoices or receipts?

Members who register on the website will receive an automated confirmation of payment.

For corporate members, upon receiving a completed application form we can issue an invoice to the Membership Coordinator along with payment instructions. Once payment is received we will also issue a receipt.

 

What's the length of my membership term?

The membership year for all memberships runs to the end of the month of joining. When joining at any stage during a given month, the membership will run to the end of the same month in the following year. We do not pro-rate fees.

 

How long does it take for my membership application to be processed?

We use an efficient online system that means the time taken to process your application is kept to the minimum and usually takes a few working days, subject to receipt of your fees.

If you need your membership processed urgently (because you want to attend a particular upcoming event, for example) please let us know.

 

Do you provide membership cards?

No, we don’t but you’ll receive your personal user ID and password details via email upon receipt of payment of your membership fee.

 

How do I update my member profile in the HKCCA’s membership directory?

To update your profile, simply log-in to the Members’ Area of our website with your user ID and password, go the section titled “My Profile”, make the relevant changes and click “Save”.

For Individual Members and persons included under Corporate Memberships, you may update all details of your profile except your surname and given name. Should there be any valid reason for you to make changes to your surname and given name, please contact ACC Hong Kong.

For membership coordinators of Corporate Members, you may update your membership coordinator and Corporate Membership details under "My Profile". You may also add or remove members within your bundle. Please refer to the Bundle Administrator's Instructions or contact ACC Hong Kong for any assistance.

 

If I leave my employer, will my membership go with me?

Individual are portable so you can take it with you to your new job, as long as your new job means you continue to meet ACC Hong Kong's eligibility requirements. Please let us know your change in details by updating your member’s profile in the Members’ Area of the website or email us at info@hkcca.net.

Existing individual members who become unemployed are entitled to retain their membership until the end of their membership year. If you have membership under the corporate membership scheme, your membership will be terminated. When you get your new job, you will need to apply for new membership and pay the normal fees.

 

Transferability of Membership?

Your membership is not transferable to someone else.
