The Technology, Media and Telecommunication Industry (TMT) Sub-Committee of HKCCA invites you to the following “back-to-school” breakfast event, hosted by Conventus Law.

TOPIC:   Data Protection, Cybersecurity and what they mean to In-House Legal Departments

Enjoy breakfast whilst discussing recent developments in data protection and cybersecurity law, and the changing role of In-House Legal Departments in relation to data protection and data security.

IT Departments traditionally took the lead in institutionalising data protection and cybersecurity within corporates. However, due to the emergence of Internet of Things, Cybersecurity and an increasingly complex global regulatory landscape, In-House Legal Departments have over recent years been taking a much more active role in building data protection and cybersecurity compliance and risk frameworks, and guiding organisations towards compliance and risk minimisation. This new development requires In-House Legal Departments to not just understand the global laws and regulations that may apply in certain transactions or situations, but also to assess and be conversant with the technical nature and related risks of the IT services and/or threats involved. – This may be a new skillset that In-House Legal Departments need to develop.
